Flying Fisherman, one of the leading brands in the sunglasses market, has diversified into the fishing rods sector.
The Florida Keys company premiered its brand new collection of Passport travel rods at last month’s ICAST trade show in Las Vegas.
The Passport series will be available mid November, with anglers given the option of light, medium and heavy sets. Each set features a four-piece, nine-foot fly rod and a three-section, seven-foot spinning rod. Individual rods and cases will also be an option.
The rods were designed by veteran Florida Keys captain, Randy Towe, and engineered by Juan Gozia, owner of Argentinian tackle manufacturer Tackle Tech.
High-modulus Japanese graphite and nano-resin technology used in the rods’ construction, coupled with reinforced joints, are evidence of the pair’s focus on durability – such is Flying Fisherman’s confidence in the rods that it offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Portuguese cork grips and Fuji reel seats add to the aesthetics.
“When we created these rods we had in mind the travelling angler who is not satisfied with low quality tackle just because it is packable,” said Towe. “Passport rods provide these anglers with high quality and performance at an affordable price.
The Passport rods were featured in daily casting demonstrations during ICAST. “Both the fly and spinning rods were well received,” said Flying Fisherman Vice President, Linda Sheldon. “We also had many requests for individual rods and cases from those wanting to build their own custom travel package.
“MSRP for the light, medium and heavy sets will be $499, $519 and $539 respectively, though pricing for individual pieces is not available just yet.”
