Designer Tim Rajeff continues his crusade to produce quality fly rods that don’t break the bank with his Echo Base series. This new family of rods will, says Rajeff, help the “greenest of greenhorns” toss tight loops like a pro.
The four-piece series is designed to offer quality and performance for newcomers or anglers who want a back-up rod – for just $89.
“Their medium-fast action casts freaky good and the four-piece design is perfect for packing,” says Rajeff. “The rods are durable, have maintenance-free reel seats, quality components and will provide years of fun.”
The Base is available as an eight-foot 4wt, nine-foot 5wt, nine-foot 6wt and nine-foot 8wt. The 4-6wt models have a half wells cork handle while the 8wt has a full wells cork handle and fighting butt. The rods have a translucent deep blue finish, alignment dots for quick assembly, chrome guides and black reel seats.
The Base drew widespread praise when debuting at the IFTD show earlier this year and performed well in the annual five-weight shootout orchestrated by George Anderson at the Yellowstone Angler Fly Shop.
Testers praised it for performance, versatility and value as it beat 10 rods of triple the value, several of which are priced over $800.
