Outdoor retailers in the US are anticipating a year of growth, according to an expansive new nationwide survey.
Conducted by Big Rock Sports, a distributor supplying more than 15,000 retailers, the survey reveals that 73% of outdoor sporting goods retailers expect sales to increase in 2016.
And 57% believe that the overall fishing, hunting and sporting recreational economy will grow.
The research results are published in the 32-page ‘2016 State of the Outdoor Industry Report,’ which is available to the company’s customers. It details findings from over 650 retailers, of which 75% are store owners and presidents.
The far-reaching report also provides insight into current marketing and sales strategies, along with retail technology trends.
Among the key findings is that female, youth and senior citizens are the fastest-growing demographics, and that retailers are using tailor-made tactics like in-store events and targeted emails to reach them.
It also reveals that shop owners are investing heavily in retail technologies and that more than two thirds of brick and mortar stores have a website to showcase their business.
Despite its view that the outdoor industry will continue to expand, retailers name governmental regulation and uncertainty about the 2016 presidential election as the biggest threats to growth.
