Ukraine’s top fishing tackle exporter has assured foreign customers that it is business as usual despite the growing political problems facing its country.
With the eastern European nation’s government embroiled in a conflict with Russian-speaking separatists, IBIS, the owner of the Favorite rod brand, is eager to emphasise that its export business remains buoyant and largely unaffected by the fighting.
Evgeniy Sheiko, Director of the fishing tackle department at IBIS, told Angling International: “Ukraine is facing what could well be the most difficult period in our history with two regions partially destroyed and Crimea occupied. As a result many businesses have been lost.
“IBIS (Europa Arm Sports) is the biggest and fastest growing fishing tackle wholesale distributor in Ukraine and there is no doubt that the market has shrunk, but we have been able to reduce that to a minimum thanks to the experience within our management team, special promotions and innovative ideas.
“We are a company that is still focused on export with the Favorite brand and we separate that business from our domestic market. Our distributors need not worry. All new models will be presented according to plan and will be backed up with our best cooperation.”
Evgeniy said that in Ukraine people were still trying to enjoy their fishing, but he added: “They are spending less money on it because they want to save money. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.”
