Top European brand Westin adds bass lures for ICAST

Star attraction in Orlando: the Barry the Bass range is aimed squarely at the US market.

Westin will be introducing a new member of its fast-growing lifelike lure family at ICAST next week.

Visitors to the show in Orlando will be welcoming an American ‘cousin’ to a clan that already includes Mike the Pike, Tommy the Trout, Ricky the Roach and Percy the Perch.

Meet Barry the Bass – an incredible lifelike bait that has been designed specifically for the American bass market. Westin’s Product Manager, Thomas Sanotra, told Angling International: “If you are serious about entering the US market you have to have a credible bass lure and in Barry we believe we have the real thing.

“We have invested a lot of market research and product development towards the US market and believe that Barry the Bass will be perfect for big bass, pike and muskie. They will just lose concentration when Barry struts his stuff past the reed beds, rattling his head and jigging his back-end like the most terrified baby bass.”

Sanotra added that the hybrid between a hard head and soft, durable body allows you to change the tailpiece to prolong the life of the lure, while the ultrasonic rattle balls concealed in the head attract the ‘big boys’ from afar.

The slim profile and deep-jointed body give it an enticing wiggle and powerful swimming action that make it impossible to resist.

Stand-out features include:

• Lead-free finish;

• Japanese-style #1 carbon steel hook;

• Running depth 1-3m;

• Slide lock for easy-to-change connection;

• Ultrasonic rattle balls inside the head;

• Full eyelet-to-hook wire connection;

• Hand-painted detailed colour.

Weighing in at 55g, the 150mm lure is low floating and swims at a depth of between one to three metres with a slow retrieve.

Barry the Bass will undoubtedly be the star of the show at ICAST, but he won’t have it all his own way as he is joined by the rest of the members of the Westin family at the company’s booth, which is double the size of its stand last year and more centrally located.
