The favourite brands of US anglers: Berkley tops three categories

Berkley has topped three categories in the 2011 list of America’s favourite brands. Market research company, Southwick Associates, through its online consumer panel survey, AnglerSurvey.com, has compiled a snapshot of the buying habits of the US public. Its July 2011 survey published in September is based on the useable responses from anglers across the US and is compared to the same period last year.

Anglers were asked about their fishing purchases during July and Berkley came out top in the line (16%), dough baits (33%) and leader (13%) categories.

Rio topped two categories: fly leaders (33%) and tippets (38%).

Shakespeare (rods), Shimano (reels), Rapala (hard baits), Zoom (soft baits), Plano (tackle boxes) and Frabill (landing nets) all retained their top spots from last year.

  • Rods – Shakespeare (9%)
  • Reels – Shimano (24%)
  • Combos – Zebco (41%)
  • Line – Berkley Trilene (16%)
  • Hard bait – Rapala (16%)
  • Soft bait – Zoom (18%)
  • Spinner bait – Booyah (21%)
  • Dough baits – Berkley PowerBait (33%)
  • Jigs – War Eagle (6%)
  • Hooks – Gamakatsu (22%)
  • Sinkers – Generic (35%), Bullet Weight (9%)
  • Swivels – Eagle Claw (128%)
  • Rigs – Generic (39%), Bass Pro Shops (6%) and Luhr-Jensen (6%)
  • Bobbers – Generic (34%), Thill (15%)
  • Leaders – Berkley (13%)
  • Flies – Umpqua (27%)
  • Leaders – Rio (33%)
