Tenkara USA has produced the Rhodo Set for anglers who want to adapt their rod’s length to different situations. Named after the rhododendron trees that grow along the banks of mountain streams, the Rhodo is effectively three rods in one.
The Rhodo Set also includes a rod case and sleeve, a Tenkara USA keeper with three flies, a tippet, forceps, nippers, mesh bag and instructional booklet.
The rod itself was developed to allow it to be fished short, or longer when the stream opens up. It is the lightest feeling rod made by the company.
“We have achieved what we set out to do, which was to produce a rod that is super lightweight, feels very precise and is both versatile and durable,” said Daniel Galhardo, CEO of Tenkara USA. “We also wanted a rod that answered the question – which Tenkara rod should I get?”
One of the Rhodo’s key featues is the Triple-zoom, which means it can be use in three different lengths, 8ft 10ins, 9ft 9ins and 10ft 6ins. “People have been asking for a sub 9ft Tenkara rod and we felt that would come in handy in some cases,” explained Galhardo
“However, we believed that for the most part anglers would miss the advantage that comes with fishing a long tenkara rod. So we developed a model that is the best of both worlds, short when you need it and long when you need it.”
Another feature is the Keep Your Plug system. The Colorado company found that no-one seemed able to keep a rod plug for more than a year, so decided to find a solution. The plug is removed from the top end of the rod and inserted into a hole provided at the bottom end (butt end). The Rhodo comes with two plugs, with advice from Tenkara USA to leave one at home.
The Rhodo weighs 2.1oz with a closed length of 21ins. The handle is 9ins long and there are eight segments.
