The rising cost of powerboat fuel is generating increased interest in fishing from float tubes and pontoon boats, says US manufacturer, Team Fish.

And to cater for the growing trend the San Diego design and manufacturing company has introduced the CastMate System, a new platform designed to make it easy for float tubers to store, access and use fishing equipment while on the water.

The CastMate and larger CastMate Pro (which has additional holders) can be attached to the side of any float tube and can be enhanced with optional attachment kits for mounting a GPS/sounder/fishfinder and transducer, cup holder, video/camera and landing net. The systems can also be used on single-angler inflatable pontoon boats.

Additional options under development include a tackle box, safety flag and sunshade. Both systems are attached using the existing D-rings found on most float tubes or by the high-strength polypropylene straps that come standard with each model.

Says Team Fish: “Both the CastMate and CastMate Pro feature corrosion-resistant, non-abrasive, lightweight aluminum frames and high-impact ABS rod and accessory holders. They provide maximum versatility within the confined space of a float tube or small pontoon boat.

“The rod holders have varying heights and allow for unlimited angular adjustment, so anglers can position them according to their individual preferences. The fishfinder and transducer mounts have universal designs that accommodate a wide range of devices from major marine electronics manufacturers.

“The CastMate and CastMate Pro allow for secure mounting of a video or still photo camera. With the flip of a wrist, the camera mount quickly rotates for underwater action filming.”

Each CastMate comes with a single frame that includes two Lo-Mount and one Hi-Mount conventional rod holders, while the CastMate Pro comes complete with a second frame featuring two additional conventional rod holders (one Lo-Mount and one Hi-Mount) for a total of five rod holders.

In addition to the standard rod holders, both systems are designed to receive additional attachments that allow for a maximum of eight or 16 attachments, respectively.
