Lars Svendsen has welcomed former Leeda Managing Director Richard Taylor to his company, describing him as the best man for the job of turning around its UK operation.
After a year-long search for a leader for its British Isles-based business, Taylor had been appointed by Svendsen as UK Country Manager.
Svendsen, CEO of the company he founded, told Angling International: “After Magnus Gunnarsson left in 2009 we have had three leaders of the business. There has been no consistency and our operation in the UK has suffered.
“We have been conducting interviews over the last year, but we had to find the best man for the job. These are tough times and we needed someone from within the industry who already has relationships with the trade.
“I had heard about Richard and how he has been very strong in transforming Leeda from a wholesaler into a strong brand company. He knows the industry and is a very skilled leader.”
Svendsen added that he had ‘great plans’ for the UK. He said: “Over the next three years we will be aiming to get the business back to where it was. The UK is our biggest market and we have made a lot of product suited for the region.”
Taylor said that he was relishing the opportunity of leading Svendsen in the UK. “It is a nice time to join the company because it is doing well in the UK and is profitable. There is a real buzz around the organisation. Svendsen doesn’t have the foothold it once had in the UK so there is a challenge to grow the business.
“Svendsen has recognised that it has to develop UK specific products so the prospect for product development look good.
“One of the most exciting things for me is the boom in lure fishing in the UK. There is no better or more innovative lure brand than Savage Gear and that is one of the areas I will focus on.
“With other strong brands like Prologic and Scierra in the portfolio, there is no reason why we can’t make significant progress.”
Taylor also revealed that an exclusive interview in Angling International with Lars Svendsen, played a part in his decision to join the company. “It was refreshing to hear Lars talk about where he sees the company going, how it has overcome setbacks and how he is planning for realistic, solid growth.”
