As it celebrates its 40th anniversary, a thriving UK tackle retailer believes that it is ‘bucking the trend’.
Angling megastore, Cheshire-based Daves of Middlewich, which has been run by sisters Julie and Ann Costella since 2006, has celebrated four decades in business – a noteworthy performance in an environment that continues to see tackle shops struggling for survival.
However, Ann Costello told her local newspaper: “We are thriving as an independent high street shop. Particularly in our industry, a lot of shops have gone completely online. We have a presence, but our catalogue of stock means that customers still enjoy coming to the store.
“We are so proud that we have reached this point. We work hard to keep the same philosophy that our father developed when he first opened. Daves is a dynamic company that is still insistent on the old fashioned values of courtesy, friendliness and care.
“Dad knew that the town was right in the centre of a massive angling area so people would be happy to travel for a specialist service and that is still the case today.”
