American rod manufacturer St Croix has added to its expansive range of high performance products with the introduction of the Eyecon Trolling Rods – a six-model series designed specifically for walleye fishermen.
Recognising the need for a sensitive, responsive rod to hook and handle the fickle walleye, the Wisconsin company believes it has come up with the perfect solution.
St Croix set out to produce an Eyecon model for every job, whether pulling lightweight lures high in the water column or lifesize replicas of bigger forage on the bottom.
The rods are made from SCI Glass, a higher modulus fibre glass than standard E-Glass, explains St Croix. Strands run tip to butt for immediate transmission of how the lure is behaving behind the boat.
The moderate action Eyecon models are available in four medium power rods rated for ten to 20 pound test in five, seven, eight and nine foot lengths. The two medium-heavy power models come in lengths of 10.5 and 12 feet for 15 to 30 pound line, as well as lead core.
“When I felt the action of each model I asked ‘why would anybody use anything else’. These rods are built to St Croix’s strict standards, yet priced affordably for the everyday angler,” said walleye tournament pro, Tommy Skarlis, who helped mastermind the series.
