The Triumph Travel series, a range of rods at the popular, affordable end of the market, was missing one thing. Until now that is.
US manufacturer, St Croix, has now filled a gap in the collection by adding two medium-heavy models, one spinning and one casting, designed to handle heavier lines, larger baits and bigger fish.
“The best thing about these new rods is that they are built on four-piece blanks that feel like you’re fishing with a one-piece rod, both when casting and when loading up with a big fish on the line,” says Jason Brunner, Director of Engineering at the Wisconsin company.
“Our specialised computer programming allows us to see exactly how a rod will flex at the ferrules long before the first one is ever manufactured. The entire series of Triumph rods is proof that anglers can buy a high quality rod, travel rods included, without spending a lot of money.”
The new-for-2015 spinning model measures six foot, six inches long and weighs 5 1/2oz. It will handle 3/8oz to ¾oz baits on 8lb to 17lb test line. The baitcasting model is the same length, weighing 5.4oz and will cast lures from 3/8oz to 1oz on 10lb to 20lb test line.
Both rods break down into four, 21-inch pieces that fit into a padded nylon case (included) that is easy to pack in car or boat.
Like the other four rods in the Triumph series, the new models feature SCII graphite blanks, hard aluminium-oxide guides and premium grade cork handles.
The spinning model is fitted with a Fuji DPS reel seat, while the casting model comes with a Fuji ECS seat. Both rods have a five-year warranty.
