SportsOneSource acquires industry information business

Market research group SportsOneSource has acquired the Outdoor Industry Association’s VantagePoint point-of-sale data reporting platform in a move that could provide the industry with a deeper insight into retail and consumer behaviours.
SOS insists that it will continue the commitment to the outdoor industry with a revised VantagePoint web platform for OIA members and other retailers and vendors.
“OIA’s goal is to provide the industry with the most comprehensive view of the outdoor market and its consumers,” said Christie Hickman, VP of Market and Consumer Insights at the OIA. “To that end, we are re-evaluating our market insights offerings to determine how best to serve the industry with the changing landscape of retail and consumer shopping behavior.”
OIA retail and vendor members will be able to access complimentary VP category-level data through to Match 31st, 2015. SportsOneSource will then provide that data on a subscription basis commencing April 1st, 2015.
SportsOneSource delivers solutions through retail and consumer insight research and retail point-of-sale trending and analysis. Its comprehensive reports provide qualitative and quantitative analysis of trends.
James Hartford, CEO at the SportsOneSource Group, said that his company is introducing new branding and technology across its data products in 2015 and the inclusion of VantagePoint aligns with that strategy.
The transaction, which gives SportsOneSource full ownership and control of the VantagePoint point-of-sale data reporting platform, is expected to close on December 31st. All SportsOneSource reporting retail partners will continue to have free access to the platform where they contribute data.
