UK brand Sonik has succeeded in producing a genuinely good carp rod at a competitive price, according to consumer press reviews of the Vader X range.
Rods in the series start at under £65, yet are not short of high quality features and components built on non-reflective gunmetal grey blanks. The slim, light blank is enhanced with double-legged black SiC-lined guides, with a 50mm butt ring on all 3lb test curve models and above, and an anti-frap tip ring.
The black DPS reel seat will accommodate big pit reels and there is a slim Japanese shrink-wrapped butt grip. Other aesthetics include high-glossy black whippings, a custom contoured Sonik line clip and a black anodised butt cap.
Rods in the range include 12ft (3.25lb test), 12ft (2.75lb and 3.5lb), 13ft (3.5lb) and a 4.5lb test hybrid spod and marker model.
“These carp rods are very decent, medium to long range big-fish tools,” said Mark Sawyer of Angling Times, arguably the UK’s most respected tackle tester. “Ideal for the novice carp angler, they are well built and nicely furnished, with an action perfect for pits and lakes where distance casting is paramount.”
