Austrian distributor Hurch and UK fly company Dragon Tackle International took advantage of their neighbouring booths at EFTTEX to reach a new business agreement.
Hurch took on the distribution of US brand Mystic Fly Rods earlier this year and, following fruitful discussions in Brussels, has appointed Dragon owner Terry Clease as Mystic’s UK agent.
“Being located so close to Terry made it easy for us to discuss things during the show and reach an agreement,” said Hurch owner Peter Oberwimmer. “Terry is well respected in the UK and we will work with him to get Mystic into that market.
“We will take things slowly to begin with and hopefully establish a good, sustainable customer base over time.”
Oberwimmer is also hopeful that he has sourced a Mystic distribution contact for France, Spain and Portugal, which was one of his pre-show objectives. “I have passed details to Mystic President Dennis Klein in the US and he has already been in contact,” said Oberwimmer.
It was an eventful EFTTEX for Hurch, which has operated in the fly fishing market for 20 years. Oberwimmer secured a deal to distribute Einarsson reels in Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Italy and the Czech Republic and made good contacts for the Mystic brand in Russia.
In addition, he reached agreement with Brian Storup of Future Fly to handle the Danish company’s high-quality salmon fishing products in five countries.
“It was a good show, very busy,” he reported. “You have to be here if you want to grow your business. Exhibitors shouldn’t judge EFTTEX too quickly – it can take three to four months for things to develop.”
