One of the big winners during the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) Best in Show Awards for five-times victor, Shimano, was the new Zodias.
As reported in Angling International’s Communique Online this week, it took the coveted Best Rod prize.
Shimano has expanded its Zodias rod range with three new models designed especially for lure fishing. The additions are made for specific lures and for particular situations.
The 7ft medium glass and the 7ft 6in medium glass heavy are crankbait rods that incorporate a glass composite material in their Hi-Power X blanks to provide a softer, more sensitive action, along with improved power and strength.
The Hi-Power X process involves the use of carbon tape to ensure extra torsion and keep the blank from twisting during the cast.
Both these crankbait rods have longer rear grips to provide more valuable leverage for longer casting.
The 7ft 5in heavy model is recommended for braided line applications and for throwing heavy baits into cover.
Fuji Alconite K Semi-Micro guides and a Fuji SiC tip contribute to weight reduction and ensure the passage of the line is unimpeded. The rods are equipped with C14+ reel seats, which help to further reduce weight.
The Zodias collection also includes the 6ft 10in medium, the 6ft 10in medium heavy, the 7ft 2in medium, the 7ft 2in medium heavy and the 7ft 2in heavy.
All actions and tapers have been designed to provide maximum casting distance and accuracy and to enhance the action of lures.
