Shimano Europe has announced that its Nordic division will be directly handling its fishing sales and distribution in the region from October next year.
The move is the latest stage in the restructuring of its network across Europe, following the ending of the 26-year partnership with the Rapala VMC Corporation which was announced earlier this year.
Shimano Nordics will develop its fishing sales and distribution alongside the existing bike operation, offering direct services to customers in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway.
Shimano says that the existing Nordic team in the Sweden-based Uppsala central office will be strengthened with new colleagues to ensure that the group continues to champion its mission of being an ‘excellent supplier and valuable partner’ for its customers throughout all distribution channels.
The Nordic region is the third territory that has been given a date for the transfer of its distribution arrangements and follows in the footsteps of the France/Switzerland and Spain/Portugal regions which were announced in August.
Andrew Cowan, Managing Director of Shimano Nordics, said: “We are extremely happy that from October next year the Shimano Nordics office will be representing the group’s fishing operations in the region. We will build a team which will consist of passionate fishermen/women.
“By utilising the strengths that we have shown in our bike section, we will strive to even better build our brands and support our retailers on this journey.”
Shimano has a number of vacancies in key positions to fill, starting with a new Sales Manager Fishing. This role will work across the existing country manager framework, focusing efforts on direct sales of Shimano fishing tackle, building key industry partnerships and recruiting a team of field sales representatives across each country.
