‘Like a dream’ – that’s how Shimano’s rod and reel design chief, Chris de Haan, described Shimano’s sixth EFTTEX Fixed Spool Reel win in a row.
The Japanese fishing tackle manufacturing giant continued its incredible run of success with its Vanquish reel – the first of two awards for the company. It also triumphed in the Braided Line category for the second year running with its PowerProBite Motion.
de Haan told Angling International: “Winning the award six times in a row is like a dream. However, our success proves that we are a reliable company that keeps on developing and delivering quality products.
“It is not just about products – it is also about developing our own people and internal processes. When you have a clear company strategy and mission statement then everybody knows his role in the company and understands that each individual Team Shimano member contributes to its success.”
de Haan admits that before the awards ceremony he was nervous about the company’s chances of extending its amazing run of success.
”Some of the reels entered in this category were based on a similar lightweight concept. However, I believe our technology is unbeatable, but you never know what the judges think.
“When the winner was announced we were so excited – and for sure had a great party for the rest of the evening!”
That triumphant feeling was compounded even further when Shimano Product Developer for Lines, Niki Bars, walked on stage to pick up the Best Braided Line Award for its PowerPro Bite Motion.
He said: “It is a great honour to win the award for the second year in a row with so many competitors in this category.”
