Shimano adds five new Sahara spinning reels to range

Five new models of Shimano’s Sahara spinning reels have been launched at fishing/outdoor shows in the U.S. this year.

Shimano is bringing more durability to its popular Sahara spinning reels with five new models. The series now includes the Sahara 1000FI and 2500FI with 5.0:1 gear ratios, and the C3000HGFI, 4000XGFI and C5000 XGFI with faster 6.2:1 gear ratios.

Improved durability and smoothness are the result of Shimano’s cold-forged Hagane Gear, where the technology allows denser gear teeth to bring added strength and power. The new Sahara reels also feature X-Ship technology – where the pinion gear is supported on both ends with bearings to keep it in precise alignment with the drive gear, even under heavy loads.

Beyond the ‘what’s inside that counts’ features, anglers will experience improved fishing comfort – and less fatigue so you can enjoy a long day on the water – with Shimano’s G-Free Body, where the reel’s centre of gravity is now closer to the rod. Even more durability is offered through a cold-forged, aluminum handle and a thicker bail wire. Anglers can back off or apply more drag more easily with a bigger front drag knob.

For lighter line and finesse fishing – bass, lake perch, trout and panfish –  the Sahara 1000FI handles 85 yards of 15lb test PowerPro braid, or 140 yards of 4lb monofilament or fluorocarbon. It cranks in 36 inches line per handle rotation.

For just about any freshwater fishing – largemouth and smallmouth, walleye, northerns and lighter inshore action species – the Sahara 2500FI holds 145 yards of 15lb PowerPro – or 140 yards of 8lb mono/fluoro – and retrieves 29 inches of line per crank. The C3000HG, with its 2500 size body and large spool capacity, retrieves 36 inches of line per crank and handles 140 yards of 20lb PowerPro or 170 yards of 8lb mono/fluoro.

Targeting bigger freshwater pursuits, and in the salt for redfish, bonefish, striped bass, bluefish and calico bass among others, the Sahara 4000XGFI holds 170 yards of 30lb  test – or 200 yards of 10lb mono/fluoro – and reels in 39 inches of line per crank, while the C5000XGFI – the same body size as the 4000 but with larger spool capacity – holds 200 yards of 30lb test PowerPro or 195 yards of 12lb mono/fluoro.
