Seahorse Electric made its debut at EFTTEX last month and is aiming to bring a new style of beach fishing to Europe.
The company says that Kontiki is a very popular form of beach longline fishing in New Zealand, but an untried method elsewhere. Now it is ready to introduce it to a wider audience.
The GPS Seahorse Electric Kontiki is a device that can pull a line and hooks up to two kilometres offshore. It can then be retrieved using an electric winch.
The built-in GPS controlled autopilot steers the Kontiki along a calculated course. The user simply places the Kontiki on the beach and points it in the desired direction. It then calculates a waypoint three kilometres in front of it which becomes the target the autopilot steers towards.
Seahorse adds: “This unique combination of technology allows the unit to fish where the operator wants.”
