Following the successful launch of the TPE Shrimp two years ago, Danish-based brand Savage Gear has introduced a hard version – and it will be one of a number of new baits on display from the company at ICAST.
The new Hard Shrimp is said to give anglers the ultimate in durability and castability found in a hard-bodied lure, but still offering all the leg and antenna action on the fall of the original TPE Manic Shrimp.
Topping off this new design is the magnetic hook holder, which keeps the hook tight to the bait for shallow presentations.
The Hard Shrimp is designed for long-casting shallow-water fishing. It has an erratic underwater darting action on a slow-to-medium retrieve, while on a medium-to-fast retrieve it delivers an erratic ‘walk the dog’ surface action.
Best of all, says Savage Gear, is the fact that the TPE material creates an extremely life-like action from the antenna and legs on the pause, provoking ferocious strikes from game fish like redfish, trout, snook and permit.
The new Savage Gear Hard Shrimp comes in eight colours: Avocado, Blue Pearl, Gold, Chartreuse, Nuclear Chicken, Red, Natural and Natural Glow.
Savage Gear will be sharing a booth with its US distributor, Okuma, where it will also be showcasing its Hard Mud Minnow. It has been designed to ‘walk-the-dog’ easily to bring aggressive fish to the surface.
The Hard Mud Minnow has a hard composite body and high-quality hooks and split-rings, which means fish stay hooked after the strike. Additionally, a specially designed rattle chamber calls fish from a distance and also helps in balanced weighting for long casts. The bait is completed with a feathered rear treble for a true baitfish profile. This bait is very effective when fish are in open water or when you need to cover a lot of water quickly.
The Hard Mud Minnow is available in two sizes and seven colours.
Another newcomer at ICAST will be the Savage Gear Hybrid Pike, which is said to combine the best of both hard and soft baits.
The core design of the Hybrid Pike comes from the 3D scanning of an actual jack pike. Each bait comes with two tail styles to give anglers two different lures in one. The paddle tail makes this bait look like the real thing, while the oversized ribbon tail calls fish from great distances.
A unique wiring system allows the hooks to separate from the lure body for a higher hook-up and hooked-to-land ratios. The wire is attached to a swivel in the head of the bait so fish can freely twist with the bait without throwing the hooks. This harness system utilises ultra-strong hooks and rings to keep those trophy fish pinned to the bait.
