The brief to designers at Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits was clear, but challenging.
The US company asked for a product that would excel throughout the water column, could be flipped, pitched and punched, could be Carolina-rigged, Texas-rigged, used for a jig trailer, used on a swing head and produce a heavy duty action of its own. Oh, and it had to be a unique design unlike any existing style.
The result is the Sanshouo, a lure fashioned to resemble a waterdog, sculpin, goby or bluegill with a distinct profile that fish don’t often see.
Its slow fall through the water, due to its high salt content, is a characteristic particularly alluring to finicky bass. The large, kicking tail is also a key factor in the Sanshouo’s repertoire.
“The Sanshouo works well in any water clarity and under a variety of conditions,” says the manufacturer. “It performs equally well from Lake Erie to the heavy mats of Lake Okeechobee.”
The supple, five-inch lure comes in a wide range of Yamamoto’s most successful colours and is available in packs of six.
