St Croix says that following extensive research its engineers have developed the ‘most significant’ rod handle innovation for many years.
St Croix Vice President of Marketing and Sales Jeff Schluter explains: “When the Rage rod casting and spinning series was conceived St Croix employed a radically different strategy – we wanted to give anglers a micro-guided rod that would yield dart-like precision casts, but we also felt we needed to innovate upon existing handle designs.
“The result is something that we feel is truly special in the rod world. Anglers won’t believe the feel and function of the Rage.”
Bolstered with elite Pac Bay Minima reel seats, Rage is said to deliver maximum blank exposure with a weight saving of 10% to 30% over conventional reel seats. The company adds: “The high-tech contoured handle conforms magically to the angler’s hand. But the surprise comes when fishermen first shake hands with a precision-machined core that’s actually wrapped in a neoprene ‘skin’.
“This extraordinary semi-soft handle delivers comfort and sensitivity that is unmatched in the industry. It’s a new, yet immediately familiar feel that delivers a totally positive grip that – again – totally grips back even when soaked after releasing a giant fish back to the depths.
“The Rage also feature Pac Bay Minima stainless steel ring micro-guides that are 20% to 30% lighter than ceramic guides and will not break or groove even with the notoriously abrasive braided lines.”
St Croix also downsized the stripper guide, making it ‘streak’ through the guides like ‘greased lightning’.
Built on responsive high-modulus SCIII graphite blanks with Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) tooling technology, each Rage rod delivers what St Croix describes as a ‘nearly organic’ fishing experience.
Key final touches include EVA trim pieces for additional handle refinement and two coats of Flex Coat slow-cure finish.
The series includes 12 casting and five spinning models with prices ranging from $150 to $170 in the US. They come with a five-year warranty backed by St Croix Superstar Service.
Schluter added: “Rage offers superior performance, comfort and that all-important St Croix intangible that can only be measured by hours on the water and deep pulsing arcs from heavy fish.”
