Ricky Teale has left Zebco Europe and Preston Innovations 18 months after being appointed Commercial Director over both businesses.
A spokesman for Zebco confirmed Teale’s departure today and Teale told Angling International that he is on ‘gardening leave’.
The well-known UK and Europe industry figure was appointed by Jeff Pontius, the recently-retired Zebco Brands President. “Ricky becomes the top guy in Europe,” Pontius said at the time.
Teale previously spent a hugely successful 15 years with Preston Innovations, five of them as Managing Director, and was instrumental in developing the company into one of the most admired businesses in Europe.
He left Preston in 2011 and spent five years with Fox International as Group Marketing Director, during which time he developed the Matrix match and feeder brand. He left Fox in 2016 for ‘personal reasons’.
Teale was given responsibility for the total business at Zebco Europe and Preston, with focus on sales, marketing and product development. Both management teams reported to him.
Preston had operated without a managing director since its acquisition by W.C. Bradley, the owner of Zebco Brands, in October 2014.
“I had the choice of appointing a managing director at Preston or finding someone to run Europe. I chose the latter,” said Pontius, who has been succeeded at Zebco Brands by Steve Smits.
Any possible repercussions Teale’s departure may have on the management structure at Zebco and Preston is as yet unknown.
