Rhino’s Salmon Special Series of trolling spoons hit the headlines earlier this year when one of the lures in the range accounted for the biggest Atlantic salmon ever caught by rod and reel in German waters.
The 125cm, 24.3kg giant was taken off Rugen Island in the north east of Germany. Wolfsburg angler, Dieter Schmidt, was using a 150mm Xtra Mag spoon in Rugen Special colours of green, yellow and red. A 115mm Mag version of the Rugen is also available.
“With the addition of new patterns and by refining the colours of the existing range we have given our already successful trolling spoons a new dimension,” says Rhino.
“The experience of catching hundreds of salmon and sea trout, as well as a precise knowledge of the behaviour of foraging fish, have inspired the colour concepts of this special series.
“The green and yellow of the Rügen is always a deadly combination. In sunny weather, and where there is a build up of algae, these colours are very effective. With its fluorescent finish, the lure has an excellent success rate from the surface down to 60 feet on a downrigger. As with the Bloody Tail model, the red stripe results in extra fish on the hook.”
The inner surface of Rhino’s Salmon Special Series is normally silver, but can be modified with the addition of Rhino Trolling Inside Foils. The adhesive, scratch-proof foils come three to a pack in gold, copper and white in either Mag or Xtra Mag sizes.
Rhino is among the portfolio of brands owned by Zebco Europe. Others include Black Cat, Browning, Quantum, Fin-Nor and Van Staal.
