Around 90% of products at Leeda’s annual iceTackle* show in February were new for this year. So there was plenty for visiting retailers to consider for their shops.

Angling International spoke to some of them about what caught their eye at the MK Dons Stadium, near the company’s headquarters in Milton Keynes, UK.

“I was impressed by the new RS Competition fly rods from Wychwood Game. They come in 9ft 6in and 10ft #7 models and a 10ft #8 version and I think they will be very popular among competition fly anglers. They will also get used by a lot of pleasure fly fishermen as well. We stock all the Leeda brands and we’ve been to iceTackle* for the last three years. It’s well worth the trip over from Ireland.”

Stephen Martin, C.A. Anderson, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland

“I like Wychwood’s collapsible Para Drogue and also the brand’s new green clothing, which I think is a better colour than the grey. The new chest and waist waders are slightly heavier material than before and will do well. The RS Competition rods are terrific. They are a bit faster and are going to make the market look at itself. I have been to every iceTackle* and the Leeda brands don’t do anything wrong for me.”

Stuart Illsley, Eyebrook Tackle Shop, Market Harborough, Northamptonshire

“The MAP Slider Keepnets are a really good idea at a very good price. The connection point and the net slide around the spraybar so the narrowest part of the net is facing you. It’s a good space-saver and will be particularly useful on commercials where there are weight limits per net and anglers use several nets. There are three types in the range – the 2.5m silver, 3m commercial (blue) and 2.5m compact (black).”
