The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) has revealed the five state agencies that will receive funding under its R3 programme to boost fishing licence sales and boat registrations in the US.
More than $118,000 has been granted to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
The agencies were among 27 that submitted proposals for review by the RBFF for recruiting, retaining and reactivating (R3) anglers and boaters.
Successful schemes include a new mobile fishing application, a web-based map that identifies recreational opportunities, a tourism partnership promoting fishing to families and a plan to sell on-site permits to participants at family fishing events.
“The impact of these programmes on fishing and boating participation, and ultimately the funding they will provide for conservation efforts, will have a lasting effect on our industry,” said RBFF President and CEO, Frank Peterson. “We hope to see them replicated by other agencies across the US.”
