Rapala VMC Singapore Pte Ltd and the company’s new production facility in Batam, Indonesia, has been strengthened by the appointment of Matti Meriläinen as Sales Director.
The announcement follows the appointment of Aku Valta as Managing Director of the Singapore operation earlier this year.
Meriläinen, who was previously Sales Manager of the Rapala Lures Division, will be responsible for the sales of all hard and soft baits produced in Batam’s hi-tech factory.
“The possibilities are tremendous for our lures manufactured in Batam. We have now our own dedicated R&D, sales and production teams fully operational,” Meriläinen told Angling International.
“I will be focusing on the Storm, Blue Fox and Williamson brands and also on the recently-launched premium brand, North Craft. With our new top-of-the-line production in place, we are able to provide the best lures in the price-point and bring our brands to a wider audience in all major markets, including Europe.”
Products made in Batam have been quick to make their mark. For example, the Arashi series is already the number one crankbait family in the US. Now Meriläinen hopes to transfer some of the local success stories in the US and Japan to other countries.
Meriläinen will be based at Rapala VMC Corporation’s headquarters in Helsinki, Finland, but will make regular visits to customers and also the team at the Singapore and Batam companies.
