VMC has introduced new Neko hooks and weights for anglers in the US who want to freshen up their finesse fishing style.
According to Mike Iaconelli, a Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Angler of the Year winner, the Neko rig is ideal for anglers who use traditional finesse techniques and like soft stick baits and wacky rigs.
“Give the Neko Rig a try and you are going to catch fish you never thought you would,” is the top tournament angler’s message.
And here’s why. “When you let the Neko Rig fall on a semi-slack line, this thing’s going to fall almost backwards at an angle,” Iaconelli explains. “And it’s that natural, erratic glide that drives the fish nuts, especially in slightly stained or clear water.”
The weights are designed to embed – and stay put – in one end of a soft-plastic stick worm. The hook features a black-nickel finish, wide gap, 3-degree offset point, resin-closed eye and a forged, long shank. It is available in four sizes: 2, 1, 1/0 and 2/0.
VMC’s Neko Weight features conical ribs, which firmly anchor it in place without damaging the worm. Its thin profile allows you to modify the rig’s action. It comes 10 per pack in four sizes: 1/32oz, 1/16oz, 3/32oz and 1/8oz.
VMC’s Half Moon Wacky Weight provides a slightly different action than the Neko Weight, and will make some noise when it collides with a hard bottom. It also features conical ribs to anchor it in place. It comes 10 per pack in three sizes: 1/16oz, 1/8oz and 3/16oz.
“The beauty of the Neko Rig is that it is simple to rig and very effective,” says Iaconelli. And the action is just amazing.”
