Raftery rejoins Live Eyewear to head up ‘secret’ division

Jay Raftery has been recruited to head up a top secret business division at Live Eyewear.

Live Eyewear, the manufacturer of fitover sunglasses, has recruited Jay Raftery to head up a secret new business division.

In the newly-created role of VP of Business Development, Raftery will manage a completely new segment of business, where he will be responsible for operations, sales and marketing.

But the Californian company – a regular exhibitor at ICAST – is staying tight-lipped about the new division’s purpose and products. “It is a company secret at the moment,” said VP of Marketing, Dave Dean. “We are in the process of registering patents and can’t tip our hat just yet.

“We have competitors who would be very interested in knowing which segment we intend to participate in, so we won’t be releasing further information until everything is wrapped up.”

Live Eyewear CEO Kieran Hardy said Raftery’s appointment comes after four years of product research and development. “The time and money we have directed into the project have been considerable,” he explained. “But the result is a product that has a tremendous upside not just for our customers but for the entire optical industry. Something that started out as an impossibility is now going to market.”

Raftery previously worked as Live Eyewear’s in-house General Counsel from 2010 to 2013 and rejoins the company after two years with Californian law firm Beach, Cowdrey and Owen LLP. “There are so many positive aspects to this landmark project,” he said

The new division will be officially launched at Vision Expo East in New York in April 2016.
