A pulsating final that went into extra-time was the highlight of a thrilling American Tackle FlipOff Challenge.
Top pro anglers, including the China Fish CastOff Champion, Chun Tae Sung of Korea, made up a top quality field for the competition at ICAST in Orlando earlier this month.
Staged for the second time, the tournament is time-accuracy based with the most points secured deciding the winner. However the Final – between John Cox and 2015 Angler of the Year, Aaron Martin – was so close that both finalists were tied at the end of normal time and it took ‘overtime’ before Cox was eventually crowned champion after a pulsating FlipOff.
The decider was played out in a packed American Tackle booth during the third annual Wave Army Reception, staged for fans of the company’s global award-winning MicroWave Guide System.
Never short of new ideas to stimulate interest and attract visitors to its booth, the Florida company staged for the first time the ‘Best MicroWave Guide Rod’ competition.
It has previously been held over the years at other shows as a ‘Custom Rod category’, but was incorporated for the first time to include rod brands of the Wave Army.
After hundreds of votes were counted, the first winner of this new trade competition was Duce Rods with its Delta series. This features a light modulus carbon blank, Nanolite MicroWave guides, engraved cork split grips combined with the company’s original hook-keeper foregrip.
Duce Rods owner, Cade Eskridge, said: “We are a family owned business from Lafayette, LA and take pride in thinking outside the box to assemble a great rod here in the US. We are very honoured to win this competition – decided by 2016 ICAST attendees.”
