Powell Rods has enjoyed tremendous growth since the brand’s humble beginnings in 1910.
Forged initially in the fly fishing world, its growth in the last decade has been accelerated by its foray into conventional bass fishing with its spinning and casting rods.
However, the US company – based in Novato, California – has never forgotten its fly fishing roots. With this in mind, Powell set on a mission to design an advanced family of fly rods that would complement its rich past.
And after months of research, design and testing, it has launched its newest fly rod series – the Legacy XL.
Powell says: “This series blends technical performance with beautiful simplicity. Meticulously designed and built using special 30-ton Maxumfiber graphite blanks with our special resin system, each grey matte finished rod comes equipped with a full array of name-brand components from Fuji, Pacific Bay and American Tackle.”
All rods in the Legacy XL family sport smooth-cast fast tapers specifically tailored for versatility at all ranges. Initially offered in 8ft 9ins and 9ft 4ins configurations and covering 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 weight sizes, there is a rod for everything from Sierra Nevada brook trout to Montauk stripers, adds Powell.
Legacy XL rods will carry an MSRP of $170 (US) and include a Cordura-covered tube and cloth sack. Each one is backed by Powell’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.
