Plastica Panaro, the Italian manufacturer of tackle boxes and a new product award winner at this week’s ICAST trade show, has appointed Douglas Outdoors as its US distributor.
Panaro Managing Director, Lucio Sirotti, and Douglas Outdoors President, Jim Murphy, who launched his US business in May this year, began discussions at EFTTEX in June and confirmed the new partnership in Orlando.
The announcement could hardly have come at a better time for the injection moulding company, which has been producing plastic products at its Marano facility, south of Milan, for more than 50 years.
The previous evening Panaro had become one of the few European companies to break the domination of US brands in the prestigious New Product Showcase. Sirotti received the award for the best fly-fishing accessory from ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman for his company’s new Fly Caddy.
“Winning the award will give Plastica Panaro some valuable exposure at just the right time,” Sirotti told Angling International. “Jim Murphy is well known and respected in the US and our collaboration fits perfectly with our ambition to grow sales here.”
Murphy commented: “We were looking for access to a complimentary product line and this meets all our requirements. Lucio has a great reputation as a businessman, his back office support is exceptional, he has excellent products and he can work quickly.”
The deal follows Douglas Outdoors’ recent distribution deal with UK terminal tackle company Lynx Fishing, originators of the knotless Precision System.
