Otterbox is a US company making protective solutions for mobile technology such as smartphones and iPads, which puts recreational fishermen right up there among its target audiences.
The Colorado firm’s latest launch is the waterproof Preserver Series, with cases for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4 available before Christmas.
The cases are made from two solid pieces of polycarbonate with overmoulded rubber which snap together to make them ‘seriously waterproof’, locking out liquids and other messy substances typically encountered during a fishing trip.
Otterbox says the cases can be fully submerged in two metres of water for 30 minutes without leaking. They also protect against dust and dirt and will withstand drops of up to two metres.
The use of all the device’s features is uninhibited through the clear screen and internal foam cushions. Each case also comes with an adjustable lanyard for convenient carrying. The case measures 139mm by 70mm by 16mm and weighs just 1.6 ounces.
Otterbox is among the fastest-growing privately held companies in the US. Its inclusion on the Inc. 500 List, an annual ranking of the country’s privately held firms based on three-year revenue growth by Inc. Magazine, is the third time it has appeared on the list.
