German manufacturer, Ockert, will be at this month’s China Fish with its three brands, Sportex, Kryston and Climax.

German manufacturer, Ockert, will be putting the emphasis on its quality brands for the carp, line and rod markets at this month’s China Fish trade show.

And for the first time, the company will be introducing its Sportex rod brand at the event in Beijing, displaying a number of new for 2019 models.

Jan Willenbruch, Managing Director of Ockert, told Angling International: “We have enjoyed incredible success with Sportex in an extremely challenging European market, enjoying growth in the region and getting more and more people – both anglers and retailers – asking for it.

“There is a tremendous amount of interest in the brand.”

Ockert will be demonstrating the unique features of its three brands in Beijing and focusing on its made-in-Germany credentials. “Our brands are clearly targeted. Sportex is exclusively rods, Kryston exclusively carp and Climax exclusively lines. Many companies have so many products that it is difficult to know what the brand stand for. That is not the case with us.

“Each one represents quality and technical excellence in its own field of expertise.

Willenbruch added the company will be looking to attract distributors from the southeast Asian markets, including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan, where the EU has recently agreed a free trade agreement.

“Asia is an untapped market for us, but demand for quality products has grown in recent years and we feel that our made-in-Germany portfolio has potential.”

Following the recent agreement on a free trade deal between the European Union and Japan, Willenbruch believes there could be an opportunity for growth in the country. “Previously, it had been expensive to export there, but now products are duty free, Japan could represent a real opportunity for us,” he said.

“The market is renowned for being quality-orientated so it could be receptive to technically superior products that are manufactured in Germany.”

Ockert has become a familiar face at China Fish over the years and Willenbruch says it is a unique event on the world recreational fishing trade calendar. He explains: “It is the only show where you get a truly international audience. It is what sets it apart from other major trade shows like ICAST and EFTTEX.”

Members of the Ockert team at China Fish will also be on hand to discuss OEM requirements – backed by 70 years of experience in the field.
