Ocean Kayak’s new Malibu model, first seen earlier this year at the Outdoor Retailer 2017 show in Salt Lake City, Utah, is now shipping.
The pedal-driven kayak, which is acclaimed by the manufacturer as having the most advanced pedal-driven technology on the market, is the Wisconsin brand’s latest model.
It is the most versatile pedal-driven kayak on the water, combining ease of use, agility, stability and zippy performance, says Ocean Kayak. It is lightweight, convenient for carrying on the roof of a car and is easily stored.
The Malibu Pedal’s PDL Drive system is the same rugged, foot-powered engine found in the award-winning Old Town Predator PDL, which has earned accolades from a wide range of outdoor users.
With an efficient 10.3:1 gear ratio, the PDL Drive System is capable of reaching 5.5 mph. It mounts into the Malibu Pedal in seconds and tips into a docking position for skinny water situations. The system’s console also doubles as dry storage with a six-inch access hatch. The pedals are padded for barefoot comfort and grip and the Element Beach Seat (EBS) is ergonomic and quick drying.
“The Malibu Pedal shares several components found on the 2016 ICAST Best Boat winner, the Old Town Predator PDL. These include the tried and tested PDL Drive unit and a redesigned element seat with quick-drying air cooled fabric, waterproof storage for small items and maximum pedalling for relaxing comfort,” said David Hadden, Brand Director for parent company, Outdoors Watercraft Inc.
Other features include slide track adjustable seating, a pet-friendly tankwell in the bow, a stern tankwell jump seat and eight-inch accessory tracks.
