Rebel Sport, New Zealand’s largest chain of outdoor sports retailers, has seen an 8.8% rise in sales during the first six months of the year.
The chain, which stock many of the major fishing brands including Rapala, Shimano and Mustad, operates 32 outlets across the county and is part of the Briscoe Group.
“We are very pleased with the group’s performance across the first half of this financial year,” said Group Managing Director, Rod Duke. “Strong sales, improved margin performance, growth in our online channel and ongoing efficiencies throughout the group have resulted in bottom line profit tracking ahead of last year. That is despite the late start to winter which slightly impacted our second quarter sales and gross margin percentage across winter-dependent categories.”
The group, which also operates stores under the Briscoe’s Homeware and Living & Giving banners throughout New Zealand, saw its total sales rise 6.48% to $231.45 million.
Duke also revealed that the group intended to open another Rebel store in Coastlands, Wellington, by the end of the year.
