NEW FLY RODS FOR 2012: Ross RX
US fly fishing specialist, Ross, has expanded its popular RX rod series to offer four new larger weights. The launches come just five months after new owners 3M announced that rods would play an equal part in the future of the company, which is better known for its reels.
In June of this year Jeff Wieringa, the Business Development Manager for Ross and sister company Scientific Anglers, told Angling International: “We expect Ross rods to be just as big as reels, if not bigger.”
Primarily designed for big game saltwater and freshwater fish, the RX is a premium rod series that features proprietary tapers designed by the Ross/Scientific Anglers team.
The all-new rods in the series are four-piece and 9ft in length. They are deep amber in colour and finished with striking silver accents.
The reel seat is anodised aluminium and has a premium hand-shaped cork handle. Hand-wrapped in the Ross custom-designed mandrels, the rods have been designed for fast action and – says the company – will perform like rods that cost considerably more.
The new RX series rods also feature:
- Ross-designed graphite scrim
- Fast action progressive taper
- Titanium oxide guides
- Rod alignment guides on each section
- Anodised aluminium reel seat
- Full wells handle with fighting butt
- Condura rod case
- Lifetime warranty
The lightweight and balanced rods are available in 9, 10, 11 and 12 weights and retail for $319.
