Rumours of new high-end catfish rods from St. Croix have been confirmed with the unveiling of the Mojo Cat range. The seven-strong series includes five casting rods and two spinning, built specifically for channel, blue and flathead catfish anglers.
“We looked at how fast this sector was maturing and felt the time was right to design and build a new category of premium-performance catfish rods,” says St. Croix VP of Brand Management, Jeff Schluter.
“Our goal was to create the best possible rods for hardcore catfish anglers. In the past, too many of them have had to compromise with inferior quality rods, or custom rods built on blanks not even designed for catfish angling.
“We know many catfish anglers are interested in better performing equipment and this provided the incentive to create a new breed of rod. We think fishermen will be happy with the result.”
Mojo Cat models are made from a blend of SCII graphite and 100% linear S-Glass, rather than traditional, less costly E-Glass. This, says the manufacturer, has a big positive influence on weight and performance. Other benefits include exceptional strength and lifting power, plus sensitivity and tip flex.
Mojo Cat rods carry Kigan 3D guides with slim, strong aluminum-oxide rings and black frames. All thread wraps are safeguarded with a dual coat of Flex Coat slow-cure finish.
The casting rods are fitted with Fuji ECS reel seats and the spinning models with Fuji DPS reel seats. Each rod is equipped with a high-grade cork handle and an exclusive Kigan hook-keeper for securing all sizes of hooks.
The rods come in seven, seven-and–a-half and eight-foot lengths and are matched to specific line and bait/sinker weights.
