Matchbox Tackle brand to be revived with plans for UK production

Iconic UK seatbox brand, Matchbox Tackle, is set to receive a new lease of life following the purchase of its assets and name.
↑ Simon Del-Nevo has formed Matchbox Fishing Tackle, the new owner of the Matchbox Tackle assets and brand.

The fortunes of one of the original names in the manufacture of seatboxes is to be revived and its production could be returning to the UK.

The assets and brand belonging to Matchbox Tackle have been acquired by Simon Del-Nevo, the owner of a newly formed company, Matchbox Fishing Tackle, based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

A keen angler, Del-Nevo has spent 25 years in the power tool industry with a number of corporate giants in the sector, including Makita and Ryobi. He told Angling International that he is keen to restore the brand to former glories and will restart the manufacture of seatboxes and accessories with a scheduled availability of early next year.

Del-Nevo has predominantly worked in sales and marketing, but he describes himself as a ‘product person’ who has worked on developing new innovations during his career.

“I saw the Matchbox range a while ago and liked what I saw. It has not been manufactured for a number of years, but the brand is a UK classic that is known for its tradition and quality.

“The challenge is to bring it back to market at an unchanged retail price and our goal is to manufacture in the UK.”

Formed in 1991, Matchbox Tackle produced one of the first fully interchangeable multi-drawer fishing seatboxes. Its previous owner was Jim Burton, who bought the company in 2000.
