Well-known seatbox maker, Jim Burton, has been manufacturing under the Matchbox brand for 15 years, but the company experienced something of a lull when Burton took on a consultant role at Chinese bait business Old Ghost about three years ago.
Now the Birmingham man is back with Matchbox full-time and this month is expecting his first container of new boxes from the Chinese factory he owns.
The delivery will include the company’s new Azuro range, of which there are two models.
The Azuro three-drawer system, the MA3, has two deep front drawers with lift-out trays and a single deep cross drawer, again with lift out tray. The MA3 also has a six-inch detachable lightweight base and hybrid pole seat. The six round legs are adjustable and the foot stand has two 16mm holes for keepnet threaded tubes.
Despite the good number of features, Burton has kept the weight of this clubman model to 12.8kg, something that will be appreciated by older anglers and those who like to travel together and need to stow two boxes.
For those wanting a little more space – and happy to carry another 3kg – Matchbox has produced the Azuro X4 system (MAX4). This matchman model has an extra wide, deep cross drawer with two lift out trays. It is also differentiated from the MA3 by a deluxe centre frame, a flat seat option and a pivoting wide bar foot stand.
The MAX4 also incorporates two under-seat winder trays containing 26 x18mm winders, another 16 under-seat 27mm winders and an under-seat spirit level. Both models come with padded shoulder straps and seatbox covers.
Although some Matchbox products are sold online, both the Clubman and Matchman Azuro boxes will be sold only through shops.
