Madfish show launch generates keen interest

A new start-up company made its first public appearance at Britain’s only trade show and reported keen interest in its wide array of products.
Madfish is a new UK-based business headed up by a father – Andrew Reade – and son – James – team that boasts half a century of fishing expertise. It made its bow at last month’s Tackle & Guns Show at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Director James Reade told Angling International that it enjoyed a successful show, signing up more than 40 retailers who were impressed with the range of tackle which covered the coarse, carp, sea and predator sectors.
“My father and I have plenty of experience within the sector. Dad started and owned Keenets for over 28 years and I have a product design and sourcing background.
“We looked at the market and believed that we could bring something new to it.”
The company has introduced nearly 70 products that stand-out in an eyecatching livery. “It is not just a ‘same as the rest’ selection of tackle. It is backed with years of listening to the needs of the trade and the modern angler,” said James.
A sneak preview of their soon to be released unique lightweight carbon match landing net heads created quite a stir amongst the dealers.
He added that the company was going straight to the retail trade where it could offer better margins for its customers. “Contact with retailers is also vital for us as we will be able to feed off their ideas and use those in the fishing tackle we make in the future.”
Initially targeting the UK, Madfish hopes to have 100 to150 accounts by the end of the year, James added that Europe will feature strongly in its future distribution plans and that it is already talking to some large European retailer groups right now.
“We will take it slowly, but a strong European distribution of our products is definitely part of the future plan.”
