Louisiana has been revealed as the location for the sixth Hobie Fishing World Championship.
Kayak fishing’s highest profile event will take place in the Leeville area of La Fourche Parish, 90 minutes from New Orleans and the gateway to Cajun Country.
“This could easily be the kayak fishing capital of the world,” said Hobie’s Strategic Development Fishing Analyst, Keeton Eoff.
Qualifying anglers from around 25 countries will converge on the town in December for an event confidently expected to produce plenty of fish, with trout, redfish and flounder the target species.
“Every competitor will catch a lot of fish and some of them will be trophies,” predicted US qualifier Benton Parrott. “The estuaries go for miles and there are no bad places to fish.”
The Championship, presented by Rhino-Rack and hosted by the Hobie Cat Company, has previously been held in Australia, the Netherlands and China, as well as the US.
Competitors fish from identically rigged Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14s outfitted with Lowrance Electronics and Power-Pole Micro anchors.
• AFTCO has become the official apparel sponsor of the Hobie Fishing Team for 2016. The Santa Ana, California, company will provide performance clothing for each team member, branded with the Hobie logo.
AFTCO apparel is popular with hardcore fishermen and a perfect fit for kayak anglers, according to Hobie Fishing Team Co-ordinator, Kevin Nakada.
“Once we sampled the AFTCO clothing we knew it hit the bullseye for workhorse wear that sets our anglers apart,” he added. “The brand is perfect for kayak anglers on the water for an average of 50 days a year or more.”
AFTCO has partnered with Hobie before and President Bill Shedd said his company was proud to do so once again. “Team members will be outfitted with the best performance fishing apparel we have to offer,” he said.
