Lars Svendsen is to step down after more than 40 years at the helm of Svendsen Sport, one of Europe’s biggest tackle manufacturers. The company, purchased by Maj Investment Equity 18 months ago, has appointed Hans Maasbøl as its new CEO.
Maasbøl, 47, was most recently CEO of DK Company Copenhagen A/S, one of Denmark’s best-known international fashion companies and retail chains.
Before that he was CEO of Denmark’s oldest company, Royal Copenhagen A/S, a porcelain manufacturer dating back to 1775. He has also served as International Sales Director for Pilgrim A/S, a Danish jewelllery business.
“Having managed Svendsen Sport for nearly 40 years, it’s time for me to step down,” said Lars Svendsen, who remains a shareholder and will sit on the company’s board. “With new ownership and substantial growth over the last period, our company has never been in a stronger position.
“In 2016 we implemented some major changes to Svendsen Sport which included the merger of Svendsen Sport and DAM and the new management of DAM. Both logistics centres have since been merged, upgraded and relocated to brand new, state of the art premises in Poland. This allows us to service the increased demand from our customers more swiftly and efficiently.
“Implementing and overseeing these major changes was my final duty as CEO and I’m satisfied that this has been completed successfully. It is now time for a new leader to take the reins and continue our progression.”
In a new role, Lars Svendsen will spearhead the product development team, but will no longer be involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
“Given Hans’ wealth of experience in both wholesale and retail sales, as well as his brand building and leadership skills, I’m 100% confident that he is the right person to take over the responsibility for our future journey,” he added.
Massbøl paid tribute to the passion and pride with which Lars Svendsen has run the Svendsen Sport business. “There is great potential in our company and I’m excited to continue the strong growth for the benefit of our customers, suppliers, employees and owners,” he said.
“I’m very fortunate to have Lars’ guidance in order to obtain a clear insight and understanding of the company and our trade”.
Svendsen Sport brands include Savage Gear, Prologic, DAM, Scierra, Imax, Okuma, Water Wolf and Lenz.
