US fly fishing and outdoor apparel brand, L.L. Bean, says that its Quest Large Arbor Fly Reel is one of the best reels on the market at its price point.
The 100-year-old Freeport, Maine, manufacturer, describes its Spring 2013 launch as exceptional quality in a reel. “Very few reel of this quality exists on the market with these features at this price point,” it adds. The reel starts at $39 (US) for the #1 model. Also included in the range are the #2 ($45) and #3 ($49).
It has a die-cast aluminium housing and a light, durable spool. Inline Rulon disc drag protects light tippets and stops hard-charging fish.
The covered clutch bearing is easily converted to right or left-hand retrieve. It comes in three sizes – #1, #2 and #3 – for line weights 3-9.
Also new for 2013 is a 10ft version of the the L.L. Bean Silver Ghost Fly Rods. These are said to be incredible light and powerful and great for high-stick nymphing and swing fishing.
They are built to the same technical specifications and with the same high-performance components of the company’s other Silver Ghost series of rods.
They also come with a carbon rod tube and cloth sleeve for protection during storage and transport.
Available in five different line weights – 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 – the price starts at $315 (US).
A trip saver – convenient travel spin rods for a destination angler at an ‘incredible’ price – that’s how the company describes its L.L. Bean Travel Series Spin Rods.
The four-piece 7’ rod boasts extra-strong guides and a rugged rod case to help it cope with the abuse fit will invariably get during travel. It also has a unique locking nut on the reel to ensure it stays tightly fitted to the rod.
Offered in three sizes – 6-12lb; 8-17lb and 10-20lb – it retails at $99.
