Kayak fishing’s most prestigious event got underway today as almost 50 of the world’s best kayak anglers paddled out onto the Vinkeveen Plassen lake, 20km south of Amsterdam, to compete in the Hobie Fishing World Championship – and Angling International will be keeping you right up to date on the event with daily bulletins on our website.
It is the fourth event in the annual series, but the first time it has been held in Europe, the previous three competitions alternating between the US and Australia.
The three-day championship has been preceded by practice sessions on the water as the US and Australian teams got their first taste of European-style fishing for pike, zander and perch.
A lot of pike, including one ‘huge fish’ and numerous perch were caught, raising expectations for the competition proper.
Hobie Worlds IV is sponsored by Daiwa, Rhino-Rack and Powerpole, with each angler fishing from a Hobie Pro Angler 12 kayak. Check out our daily updates and photos on the Angling International website.
