JAPANESE bait brand, Marukyu, has pledged its future to the UK and European markets, on the day that the current boss of its European subsidiary, Marukyu Europe, announced his retirement.
John Loftus, who founded Marukyu Europe Ltd six years ago, is stepping down from his position as Chairman and CEO. He will be replaced by Masazumi Miyazawa.
Loftus said: “After 57 years in the industry I feel that now is the time to get some rest and recreation and specifically spend more time on my yacht and fishing. I am working towards leaving at the end of this month, although that remains fluid at this time.
“This is the beginning of a new era for me and a new era for the company.
“Over the past six years we have built Marukyu and its associated brands into a solid business which exports its goods across the whole of Europe. It is now time to pass this company back to my Japanese colleagues – who I am sure will continue to let the company grow and bloom.”
Masazumi, who is now based in Swansea, added: “John has worked tirelessly to establish Marukyu in the marketplace in both the UK and Mainland Europe. His work ethic has built this company and it is something that we will use to build further.
“John has positioned the company well and we are very grateful for his work.”
Masazumi was quick to dispel any rumours that this would be the end for the company.
“Our key brands, Marukyu, Rig Marole, Ecogear, Nories and Bait Factory are well positioned and it is our intention to now take them to the next level. We will be investing heavily in their future.
“Demand is growing for our products and we are looking for new agents to help carry on with this push.
“As we all know, ‘new’ sells. Dealers will be pleased to hear that we have a host of new products for all brands that we plan to roll out in 2017.”
