Rumours have been circulating in the US industry that Jim Murphy has left his post as President of New York rod and reel manufacturer Douglas Outdoors.
Murphy helped found the Syracuse business early last year when he teamed up with David Barclay, owner of the well-known industrial development giant and part of the wealthy Barclay family recognised for its conservation work.
But Angling International understands Murphy has recently been pursuing alternative positions in the tackle industry.
Douglas Outdoors has made good progress under the leadership of Murphy, a previous President of Hardy North America and known for his emphasis on quality product and customer service.
He hosted the Douglas booth at the recent ICAST show in Orlando and appeared very upbeat about the company’s direction and new products.
During his 25-year career in the tackle industry he has developed a reputation as a start-up specialist, having founded brands including Albright Tackle and the Redington Fly Rod Company.
Angling International called Douglas Outdoors’ offices but was told Murphy was absent and the time of his return unknown. Jim Murphy was unavailable for comment.
