Former publisher, boat company manager and AFFTA board member, Gary Jennings, is to head up the American Sportfishing Association’s Keep Florida Fishing initiative (KFF).
The appointment comes in response to the increasing threat of restrictions on fishing and boating in arguably the USA’s most important fishing region.
The ASA is concerned about what it calls misguided attempts to manage fisheries in the sunshine state, which have included Biscayne National Park, the Everglades, the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary and red snapper fishing on both coasts.
“All this highlights how important Keep Florida Fishing is to our industry,” said the ASA’s VP for Industry Relations, Glenn Hughes. “Hiring Gary to coordinate our efforts is a major step in that initiative.
“Gary has been in the industry for close to 20 years and has worked for the Coastal Conservation Association Florida. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a strong network of relationships to the job.”
Jennings will work with the ASA’s Government Affairs team and the KFF steering committee to identify and prioritise current water access and fisheries issues in Florida. He will also help develop a Florida-based fishing and boating coalition.
