American Sportfishing Association (ASA) veteran Peter Foley, President of the Boone Bait Company, has been appointed a lifetime Board of Directors member.

He was unanimously given the honour at last week’s ASA Summit for his decades of service to the trade body, which includes terms as a board member, Executive Committee member and Board Chairman from 1985 to 1986. He also holds the title of Treasurer Emeritus.

Also during the Summit, Dave Bulthuis, Vice President of Industry Relations and Government Affairs at Costa, was awarded the ASA’s most prestigious award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Jeff Pontius, former Zebco Brands President and CEO, was handed the Future of Fishing Award.

The ASA also presented a Legislative Champion Award to California state senator Ben Allen in recognition of his commitment to fisheries conservation and recreational fishing’s future.

New additions to the Executive Committee were also announced at the Summit. These include Zack Swanson (Rapala VMC Corporation) as Vice Chairman, Dan McDonald (Yakima Bait Company) as Treasurer, Louis Chemi (Freedom Boat Club) as Secretary and Jesse Simpkins (St. Croix Rods) as At-large member.

Dave Bulthuis (Costa), Neil Eibeler (Pure Fishing), Carey Graves (Daiwa), Kenneth Hammond (The Hammond Group) and Phil Lillo (Don Coffey Group) were appointed ex-officio board members.

“I want to thank these individuals for their support and commitment and look forward to working with them to advance the association and the sport fishing industry,” said Glenn Hughes, ASA President. “The experience and perspectives that these members bring to the Board of Directors will continue to serve the industry well.”

The 2019 ASA Summit will take place from October 8th to 11th at Skamania Lodge, which is located on the Columbia River Gorge, in Stevenson, Washington.
